Srinagar: DD, Additional Director General of Police (Armed) Anand Jain on Saturday announced that Srinagar will host the All India Cluster Judo Championship in the first week of October, with nearly 3,000 athletes from across the country expected to participate.
Speaking at the 26th edition of Jashn-e-Dal, ADGP Jain, described the festival as more than just a water sports event, calling it a platform to inspire youth, boost tourism, and strengthen police-public relations.
“The event, started in 1999, has now become a celebrated annual feature. This year, dragon boats have been introduced as a new attraction. Over 700 participants are competing across 20 different disciplines, including those featured in the Olympics, Asian Games, and national level,” Jain said.
He emphasized that such sporting festivals significantly contribute to tourism and community engagement. Announcing the upcoming judo event, Jain said, “The first week of October will witness the All India Cluster Judo Championship in Srinagar, with around 3,000 athletes from across the country.”
“Events like Jashn-e-Dal not only highlight talent but also create a neutral space for communities to connect, strengthening the bond of trust between police and the public,” he added. (KNC)
