Poonch, DD, In a swift and compassionate response to the recent incident of unprovoked shelling by Pakistan, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Shri Shafkat Hussain, JKPS, visited the forward border village of Degwar—situated across the fence—on Monday. The visit was aimed at assessing the security situation, boosting public confidence, and extending support to the affected residents. He was accompanied by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Headquarters Poonch, Shri Neeraj Sharma.

The SSP’s visit comes in the wake of heightened tension in the region following cross-border hostilities. During the field tour, SSP Poonch interacted extensively with the local populace, many of whom had experienced the trauma of shelling. He patiently listened to their concerns and grievances, assuring them of the police department’s unwavering support.

“We stand in solidarity with our border residents. The Jammu and Kashmir Police is fully committed to ensuring their safety and well-being. Every possible step will be taken to maintain peace and safeguard the lives and property of the people living in these vulnerable areas,” SSP Poonch stated during his address to the villagers.

The SSP also reviewed the security arrangements in and around the village and directed the local police to remain vigilant, proactive, and responsive to any emerging situation. He emphasized the need for close coordination between security forces and the civil population to effectively counter any threat to peace and order.

Several immediate public grievances were addressed on the spot. Matters beyond the jurisdiction of the police were duly noted and will be communicated to the concerned civil authorities for redressal at the earliest.

The police also appealed to the public to remain calm but alert and to extend full cooperation with law enforcement agencies. Citizens were encouraged to report any suspicious activity or movement of anti-social or anti-national elements in the area, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.

Such visits not only reinforce the security apparatus on the ground but also serve to strengthen the trust and cooperation between the police and the people—essential elements in the maintenance of peace in sensitive border areas.DD
