Jammu,(DD):In line with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ directive to conduct nationwide mock drills, a school in Jammu today organized an emergency preparedness drill to train students in handling crisis situations, including war-like scenarios and natural disasters.
The mock drill, held within the school premises, aimed to instill a sense of awareness, readiness, and responsibility among students. School authorities, in coordination with disaster management teams, demonstrated how to respond during emergencies, particularly shelling or air raid scenarios.
Speaking to the media, the school principal said, “Today, we conducted a mock drill to help our children understand how to act in emergency situations. They were trained on how to protect themselves, provide basic first aid, and help others during a crisis.”
Students actively participated in the exercise and learned how to lie down to protect themselves during shelling, assist injured individuals, and administer first aid until help arrives. “We were told how to stay safe, how to lie on the ground during an attack, and how to help someone who is hurt,” said one student. “We even learned what to do if something happens when we’re at home.”
The initiative is part of a larger effort by the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that educational institutions across India are prepared for any eventuality and that students are not only aware of potential threats but also equipped with life-saving skills.
Officials said similar drills will continue across various schools in the region in the coming weeks to strengthen community-level preparedness and resilience.(DD)
