Baramulla,(DD) In the wake of the recent attack in Pahalgam, tensions have sharply escalated along the Line of Control (LoC), creating a war-like atmosphere between India and Pakistan. Amid these developments, the Department of Education has initiated specialised training for students residing in border areas, focusing on essential safety measures in the event of conflict.
In Tilawari, Uri—a village located merely 200 metres from Pakistani bunkers—students are now being trained in protective techniques, including methods to shield themselves from artillery fire. The local school, situated within this high-risk zone, has become the centre of preparedness efforts.
Teachers, pupils, and residents have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating security situation. Many recall that the school had been targeted during past skirmishes. Although a period of relative peace had allowed normal educational activities to resume, the present atmosphere has rekindled longstanding fears.
Educators have also highlighted the alarming lack of adequate shelter facilities in the village. Currently, Tilawari has only two community bunkers, which are wholly insufficient for the area’s population. Teachers are now urging the authorities to construct protective bunkers within school premises to ensure the safety of both students and staff should hostilities erupt (DD)
