Udhampur:TDD, Sunil Verma, District President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Udhampur, today condemned the recent conduct of BJP MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, criticizing their irresponsible behavior and failure to address the genuine concerns of the people.
Speaking at a press conference in Udhampur, the senior NC leader expressed disappointment, emphasizing that the people of Jammu had entrusted the BJP with a significant mandate, expecting them to act in the public’s best interests and address pressing issues in the House. Instead, he argued, these legislators have displayed a lackadaisical attitude, causing disruptions rather than constructive debates.
Sunil Verma accused BJP MLAs of misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir by disregarding the region’s distinct concerns. “There is no harm in demanding special status for Jammu and Kashmir, as several other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Nagaland, have special rights that protect their unique identity and resources,” Verma stated. He pointed out that these states have been able to safeguard the land and job rights of their residents effectively, and J&K deserves the same protections to preserve its cultural and economic interests.
Highlighting the urgency of the issue, the senior NC leader asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to demand protections that will secure their future and prevent exploitation of their resources and employment opportunities. He further emphasized that special status is essential for the state to protect the interests and rights of its residents amid changing political dynamics.
Sunil Verma appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, asserting that his leadership is crucial for maintaining the state’s autonomy and safeguarding the rights of its people. He urged unity among residents to strengthen Omar Abdullah’s hands in the struggle to preserve Jammu and Kashmir’s distinct identity within the Union of India.TDD
