Udhampur, DD: Sunil Verma, District President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) District Udhampur, has lauded Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Budget, describing it as a comprehensive and people-centric financial plan that addresses the diverse needs of the populace.

Addressing media persons here today, the senior NC leader emphasized that, despite fiscal constraints, the budget ensures inclusive development across various sectors. He highlighted key initiatives such as the provision of 200 units of free electricity for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families, free travel for women in government buses, establishment of new universities to enhance higher education infrastructure, etc many other pro people policies.

He also pointed out the significant allocations for agriculture and tourism, with Rs 815 crore earmarked for agriculture and Rs 390 crore for tourism development, reflecting the government’s commitment to these vital sectors.
Sunil Verma further highlighted that the budget reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable growth and regional stability, with significant allocations for youth and women empowerment, tourism, agriculture, healthcare, and local industries. Acknowledging tourism as a vital component of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, he said that the Budget allocated substantial funds to modernize infrastructure in key tourist destinations. By promoting eco-tourism and enhancing facilities, the Omar Abdullah government aimed to attract visitors year-round, thereby boosting the local economy and creating employment opportunities. This focus on tourism is expected to revitalize the sector and showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, he added.

Verma further stated that the Omar Abdullah government is dedicated to transparent and accountable governance, ensuring efficient public service delivery and actively engaging with citizens to address their concerns.

Sunil Verma strongly criticized the local MLAs from district Udhampur for failing to meet public expectations, both in addressing local issues and effectively representing their constituents in the Assembly. He expressed concern over their unjust targeting of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary. He said that the Deputy Chief Minister is doing good job by combating illegal mining activities in Jammu region.

Additionally, Sunil Verma also highlighted challenges faced by residents due to the Change of Land Use (CLU) regulations imposed by the Forest Department, which have restricted their ability to utilize, sell, or transfer their land. He urged authorities to revisit these policies to alleviate the hardships of the affected populace.DD
