Seeks Delimitation for more Inclusivity in Hill Council
Leh, DD, A delegation of the Sunni community, led by the President of Anjuman Moin‑ul‑Islam (AMI) Leh, Dr. Abdul Qayoum, held a detailed interaction with Chairman/CEC, Adv Tashi Gyalson, in the presence of BJP State President, Tashi Gyalson Khachu.
The delegation comprised AMI’s Women President, Youth President, executive members, and senior community representatives.
During the meeting, the delegation put forth the demand for delimitation of council constituencies possibly before the upcoming LAHDC elections.
They emphasized the need for a more inclusive and representative electoral process that reflects the demographic realities of the region.
The community expressed that allowing adequate time for a fair and proper delimitation exercise, even if it requires a slight deferral of elections, would help ensure just representation.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum highlighting the longstanding concerns of the Arghon community, which continues to remain outside the purview of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
They sought the Council’s intervention and support in addressing this issue at appropriate levels to ensure social justice and equal opportunity for all sections of Ladakh.
The community extended heartfelt gratitude to the CEC, the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their continued commitment to unity, inclusivity, and upliftment of all communities across Ladakh post the formation of UT-LADAKH.DD
