New Delhi,TDD,In a solemn ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Justice Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as India’s 51st Chief Justice, marking a significant transition in the country’s judicial leadership. The oath-taking ceremony was presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other distinguished dignitaries in attendance.

Justice Khanna brings to the position an impressive legal career spanning four decades. His journey began in 1983 when he enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi, cutting his teeth in the District Courts at the Tis Hazari complex before expanding his practice to the Delhi High Court. His expertise spans multiple domains, including constitutional law, taxation, arbitration, and environmental law.

His ascent through the judicial ranks has been marked by significant milestones. After serving as Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department and Standing Counsel for the National Capital Territory of Delhi, he was elevated to the Delhi High Court in 2005. During his tenure there, he chaired several key institutions, including the Delhi Judicial Academy and the Delhi International Arbitration Centre.

The Supreme Court welcomed Justice Khanna to its ranks in January 2019, where he has since served with distinction. His recent role as Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Service Committee from June to December 2023 further demonstrated his commitment to judicial service.

As Justice Khanna embarks on his six-month tenure as Chief Justice, he inherits the mantle of leadership at India’s highest court, adding his own chapter to the nation’s rich judicial legacy. His appointment represents not just a personal achievement but a continuation of India’s commitment to justice and constitutional values,TDD
