Rajouri, Jammu (India): The Indian Army on Thursday thwarted a suspected terrorist infiltration attempt across the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani, Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Alert troops of the White Knight Corps were manning frontline positions when they received intelligence inputs about the movement of suspected terrorists in the forest areas of Nathua Tibba in Sunderbani along the LoC.
“Suspicious movement of terrorists was detected in the general area of Nathua Tibba. Alert Indian Army troops responded with swift and calibrated fire, successfully foiling the infiltration attempt,” the defence spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added, “Own troops have been suitably repositioned and reoriented to ensure comprehensive domination of the area through integrated ground and aerial surveillance.”
Meanwhile, a high level of operational alert has been maintained across the sector.
As the security forces were on alert, intelligence inputs were developed from a credible source about a person carrying a Turkish pistol in Nowshera, an area near the Line of Control (LoC) dividing India and Pakistan.
A special team of the Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) of the Indian Army immediately swung into action and apprehended the person, whose identity was established as Sachin alias Pamma, a resident of Nowshera (Rajouri district), Jammu and Kashmir, according to the defence spokesperson.
During the operation, the Army, along with other security forces, recovered one Tisas Zigana 9 mm (Turkey-made) pistol, one TT-30 (Norinco, China-made) pistol, two extended 50-round Zigana magazines, two standard pistol magazines, and 15 live 9 mm rounds.
During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the arrested person was directly in touch with Pakistan-based terrorists/smugglers and was operating a trans-border, inter-state weapons racket.
Security forces termed the arrest a major achievement of intelligence agencies, local police, and the Romeo Force, stating that it had thwarted nefarious designs aimed at destabilising the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.
From Drones to Infiltration Attempts on the Line of Control
In January 2026, a few suspected Pakistani drone activities were reported from Nowshera, Rajouri, and Poonch across the Line of Control, and from Samba district along the International Border with Pakistan.
In the early morning hours of September 1, 2025, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid in the Mendhar sector near Dabbi village in Balakote.
Similarly, in July 2025, the Army intercepted suspicious movement and opened fire in Degwar. On June 29, 2025, the Army also apprehended a person suspected of assisting terrorists near the Keri sector in Rajouri.DD
