Udhampur-TDD, In a significant move to enhance democratic participation among the youth, Sant Ishwar Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School in Nainsu, Udhampur, recently hosted a special event under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. The initiative, aimed at first-time voters aged 18 and above, was carried out under the directive of District Election Officer Udhampur, Saloni Rai (IAS), and saw enthusiastic participation from a large number of students.

The primary objective of the program was twofold: to educate young adults about the importance of voting and to encourage school students to become ambassadors of voting rights awareness in their communities. The event was designed to instill a sense of civic responsibility and empower the youth to actively participate in the democratic process.

Principal Renu Sharma addressed the gathering, delivering a powerful message that emphasized the significance of casting one’s vote. She urged all eligible youth to participate in the electoral process, highlighting how each vote contributes to the strength of democracy. Her words resonated with the students, inspiring them to take their civic duties seriously.

One of the most impactful moments of the event was when students took a collective pledge. This oath was not just a commitment to exercise their own right to vote but also a promise to motivate others in their community to do the same. The pledge specifically mentioned the upcoming elections in Udhampur district on October 1st, encouraging everyone to step out and be a part of the democratic process. This act of solidarity demonstrated the students’ understanding of their role in promoting a vibrant democracy.

The SVEEP program, known for its innovative approaches to voter education, utilized this school-based event to reach out to a crucial demographic – young, first-time voters. By targeting educational institutions, the initiative aims to create a ripple effect, where informed and enthusiastic students can influence their peers, families, and neighbourhoods.

The event at Sant Ishwar Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School is part of a larger effort by the Election Commission to increase voter turnout and ensure informed participation in the electoral process. Such programs are particularly crucial in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where fostering democratic engagement among the youth can have far-reaching positive impacts on society and governance.

As the October 1st elections in Udhampur district approach, this SVEEP event serves as a timely reminder of the power of each vote. It has set the stage for increased youth participation, potentially leading to a more representative and vigorous democratic process in the region.

The success of this awareness program at Sant Ishwar Bharatiya Vidya Mandir School may pave the way for similar initiatives across other educational institutions in Udhampur and beyond, contributing to a more informed and engaged electorate for future elections.TDD
