Stockholm,DD: Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson highlighted Swedish priorities in EU efforts for the coming year, such as EU competitiveness and, not least, the EU’s continued support to Ukraine.
“Support to Ukraine is our top priority. Bringing an end to the war requires increased pressure on Russia, along with robust security guarantees for the future. Discussions during our meeting included the EU’s continued work to support Ukraine,” says Kristersson.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson received the President of the European Council António Costa in Stockholm.
Representing the Swedish Government were Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister for EU Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz. Issues that will be high on the EU agenda going forward were discussed at the working lunch.
Ukraine’s path to EU membership was also discussed during the meeting. Ukraine’s EU membership plays an increasingly important role in efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace on our continent.
“Despite the ongoing war, Ukraine is making impressive progress on reforms. It is time to take concrete steps in the membership negotiations, but one country is blocking this process. During the meeting, we discussed how we can move forward. This is important. With Ukraine in the EU, Europe will be stronger and more secure,” says Rosencrantz.
