Taj Mohiuddin, G.M. Saroori Rejoin Congress, Boost Party’s Presence in J&K

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)In a significant political development, former ministers Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saroori rejoined the Indian National Congress today, marking their return to the party after a brief break.

Both leaders had earlier parted ways with Congress following the launch of Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP). However, they remained with the new outfit for a short duration and later contested the 2024 Assembly elections as independent candidates.

Their return to the Congress fold comes shortly after other prominent leaders like Choudhary Guzlar Khatana and Mohammad Amin Bhat also rejoined the party, signaling growing support for Congress at a time of shifting political dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir.

Party sources view the move as a boost to Congress, especially in south Kashmir, where the National Conference won 10 out of 16 seats in the recent elections. The rejoining of senior figures is expected to strengthen the party’s position in the run-up to future political developments in the Union Territory.(DD)
