Rajouri, (DD)A tragic road accident at Chattiyari near Chingus in Rajouri district on Monday morning claimed two lives and left seven others injured when a tempo vehicle (bearing registration number JK02AW-9030) skidded off the road under unexplained circumstances.
According to official sources, the deceased have been identified as:
Insa Fatma (26), Daughter of Akhter Ali, a resident of Khotra No. 2
Farzand Begum (50), Wife of Mohammad Iqbal, a resident of Fatehpur
Both died on the spot due to the severity of their injuries.
Seven passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, where they are undergoing treatment. The injured have been identified as:
- Mohammad Fareed (19), S/o Mohammad Yaqib, R/o Dhanwan Kote
- Mohammad Hanif (50), S/o Faqir Mohammad, R/o Katarmal
- Mohammad Iqbal (60), S/o Faqar Din, R/o Fatehpur
- Rafia Iqbal (28), D/o Mohammad Iqbal, R/o Fatehpur
- Sadia Parveen (25), D/o Akhter Hussain, R/o Kheora Rajouri
- Mohammad Khalid (30), S/o Lal Hussain, R/o Bhattian
- Anil Kumar (38), S/o Ghani Sham, R/o Mubarakpura
Local authorities, along with police from Police Post Chingus, reached the spot immediately after the incident. The injured were provided first aid at the site before being transported to GMC Rajouri in critical condition.
A police official confirmed that a case has been registered and investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have lost control while negotiating a turn, though mechanical failure or rash driving has not been ruled out.
Eyewitnesses said the scene was distressing, with locals assisting in the rescue efforts before ambulances arrived.
Authorities have appealed to drivers to exercise caution, especially while navigating hilly and accident-prone stretches.
