Leh: DD, Tension escalated in Ladakh Union Territory when a “group of protesting youth turned violent.”
These youths allegedly clashed with the police, pelted stones and damaged several vehicles, as well as set a few of them (vehicles) on fire outside the BJP office in Leh, this morning.
In response, the police used force, and baton charged the protesters to disperse them in which some of the protesters also sustained injuries, as per the media reports pouring in from Leh.
These protesters were demanding Statehood to Ladakh Union Territory, and Sixth Schedule.
As the hunger strike continued, the youth gathered to hold a protest demonstration as a part of a shutdown call that ultimately turned violent, and they clashed with the police team.

The shutdown call was given by the youth wing of the LAB after two of its members, during a 35 day of hunger strike, were hospitalized and their health condition deteriorated.
As per the media reports, within no time, the protesters damaged several vehicles, allegedly pelted stones, and also sent some vehicles on fire.
The violence has occurred ahead of scheduled talks on October 6, 2025 between the representatives of Centre Govt and Ladakh i.e., Leh Apex Body (LAB), and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
Prominent climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is also a part of the ongoing peaceful agitation in Ladakh.
The media reports claim that the situation remains tense. However, it was brought under control by the police and civil administration with prompt response whereas the authorities have reportedly cancelled the Ladakh Festival in Leh. Further details are awaited.DD
