Kishtwar, (DD)Three militants have been killed and a cache of weapons recovered in an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Chhatru forest area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, Army and police said in a joint statement today.

Brigadier J.B.S. Rathi, Commander of 5 Sector Assam Rifles, and Deputy Inspector General Shridhar Patil of the Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban Range addressed a joint press conference, stating that the operation was launched on 9 April following credible intelligence about militant movement in the region.

Despite challenging terrain and adverse weather, the joint teams of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and Jammu and Kashmir Police pressed on with the mission. One militant was neutralised on 11 April, followed by two more on 12 April.

Recovered arms include one AK-series rifle, one M4 carbine, and other war-like stores. Officials said the identities of the deceased militants are being verified.

DIG Patil noted that the area remains under tight security, with phased searches underway to ensure thorough clearance and safety for all personnel involved.

He added that this operation forms part of a broader counter-terror strategy aimed at dismantling militant networks across the region.

Security has been significantly heightened in Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur districts, with enhanced surveillance using drones, facial recognition tools, and vehicle scanners.(DD)
