Shopian, (DD):Three terrorists were killed in an intense encounter with security forces in the Keller area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district early today morning, officials confirmed.
The gunfight erupted after joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation based on credible inputs about terrorist movement in the area.
“As the forces zeroed in, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire,” police sources told the Diplomat. “So far, three terrorists have been gunned down.”
The operation remains active as forces continue combing the area to rule out the presence of any additional terrorists. Reinforcements have been rushed in, and the entire locality remains under tight security cover.
Authorities said the identity and affiliation of the slain terrorists are being ascertained. Further details are awaited (DD)
