Baramulla, (DD): A family outing ended in tragedy on Sunday evening after four members of a Srinagar-based family drowned in the River Jhelum near the NHPC canal at Gantmulla in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to officials, the family was enjoying a picnic by the riverside when two children accidentally slipped into the fast-flowing river. In a desperate attempt to save them, two other family members jumped in, but they too were swept away by the strong current.
A local resident heroically intervened and managed to rescue one individual. However, the lifeless body of one minor was later recovered. The remaining two — reportedly a child and an adult — are still unaccounted for.
The rescued person was shifted to Boniyar Hospital for medical attention and legal formalities.
