TRF Propaganda on Social Media a ‘Serious Threat’, Citizens Must Counter Extremism: LG Manoj Sinha

Srinagar,DD: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday warned that the narrative being pushed by the Terrorist Resistance Front (TRF) on social media poses a serious threat if left unchecked.

Speaking at an event at Tagore Hall in Srinagar, LG Sinha, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to stand united against extremist propaganda to safeguard peace and stability.

He said that TRF’s online messaging has direct implications on the ground and ignoring it would be dangerous. “If such narratives are being spread on TRF’s social media and we remain silent, it is dangerous. We must pay attention to it,” he said.

Emphasizing that the fight against terrorism is not the responsibility of security forces alone, he said citizens must also play an active role. “More than 40 lives have been lost due to terrorism. It must be completely eradicated not just by the forces but by citizens too. People must come forward,” he added.

Highlighting the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, LG Sinha said that stone pelting has become “history” and local terror recruitment has seen a major decline. “Whenever there is a division in any family, we must try to put our house in order,” he remarked.

He also said that the changes following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 marked a key milestone in J&K’s journey, adding that initiatives like granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari community and implementation of the Forest Rights Act reflect the government’s commitment to justice and inclusivity.

“Now equal rights are being given to the Pahari community. No one can stop this community. What is their right will be given to them,” he said.

The LG further stated that terrorism and left-wing extremism have significantly reduced across the country, especially in the northeast, and expressed confidence that Naxalism too will soon be wiped out.

“J&K has suffered for a long time. The end of terrorism is necessary. Security agencies are doing their job, and we as citizens must behave responsibly and not indulge in any wrong activities,” he said. (KNC)
