Udhampur ,TDD, The Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur successfully concluded a comprehensive two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019 and Rules 2020. The programme aimed to empower key personnel to facilitate understanding, sensitization and effective implementation of the Act and Rules among law enforcement and Public service sectors. This ToT programme was attended by 26 of participants from Police departments and social welfare agencies including representatives from civil society NGO’s focused on the rights and welfare of transgender individuals.
During the programme, expert trainers provided insights into the challenges faced by the transgender community and highlighted how law enforcement and public service officials can contribute towards an inclusive and safe environment for them. Interactive sessions, case studies and group activities were incorporated to enhance participants’ understanding and encourage proactive engagement with the Act’s provisions.
Key areas covered in the ToT included Legal Rights and Protections: Detailed review of the Transgender Act 2019, including rights to equality, non-discrimination, and self-perceived gender identity,Role of Law Enforcement and Public Officials: Guidance on respectful interaction, sensitive handling of complaints, and support for transgender persons in various public spheres,Community Outreach and Awareness Initiatives: Strategies for building community support and spreading awareness on transgender rights and protections.
