Mendhar, Oct 19(TDD) As a major breakthrough, Poonch Police, in collaboration with the Army’s 37 RR and CRPF’s 38 Battalion, arrested two terrorists involved in several attacks in the region. “On October 18, security forces apprehended Abdul Aziz, son of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Hari, during a routine naka check. Two live hand grenades were recovered from his possession,” revealed an official.He said, a subsequent search of his house led to the recovery of an additional grenade. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of his accomplice, Manwar Hussain, son of Roshan Din, also from Hari, who was found in possession of a pistol, magazine, and nine rounds of ammunition.During the investigation, it was revealed that both terrorists were operatives of the Jammu Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF). They had received four separate consignments of arms, ammunition, and Rs. 1.5 lakh in terror funding from various locations in Poonch.Both Aziz and Hussain had undergone training in the forested areas, where they learned to handle pistols and practiced firing. Their involvement in a series of grenade attacks across Poonch was also uncovered, with the two responsible for targeting key locations to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the region.Abdul Aziz’s attacks include, Grenade attack on Shiv Temple, Surankote (15 November 2023), Attack on Gurudwara Mahant Sahib, Poonch (26 March 2024), Attack on Army Sentry Post, Kamsar, Poonch (June 2024) and Attack near the CRPF Sentry Post at a school ground (14 August 2024)Also, Munawar Hussain’s attacks include, Grenade attack on District Hospital, Quarters, Poonch (18 July 2024).In addition to these attacks, the two also spread fear by pasting anti-national posters at various locations in Surankote, including Government High School Hari, Dhundak, Sanai, and Eidgah-Hari. These posters, printed at Munawar Hussain’s residence, were displayed on August 5 and 14, 2023, under instructions from their handlers, aiming to create unrest among the public.The investigation also connected the pair to another terrorist associate, Mohammad Shabir, son of Mohammad Farooq, a resident of Daryala Nowshera, who was arrested on September 12, 2024. Shabir, apprehended with explosives at Potha bypass, had received the material from Abdul Aziz. A separate case related to Shabir is under investigation at Surankote police station.With the arrest of Aziz, Hussain, and their associate, four cases have been registered, bringing a major terror module of the JKGF to light and dealing a blow to terror operations in the region.(TDD)
