Srinagar, (TDD),At a time when an encounter is underway in Srinagar, two terrorists were killed in an ongoing operation at Larnoo area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said today.
They said that the operation was launched on the basis of a specific input about the presence of some foreign and local terrorists in Halkan Gali, Shangus in Larnoo area of Anantnag district.
As soon as the troops zeroed in on the suspected spot, the terrorists opened fire leading to a fierce gunbattle in the area. “In the heavy exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed while an operation was underway,” the officials said.
They said that there are inputs of one or two terrorists still present in the area. “Cordon layers have been tightened in the area to ensure remaining terrorists don’t flee,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, in Khanyar area of Srinagar, the encounter is underway and the trapped terrorists believed to be one to two in number, have been cornered from all directions. The terrorists, as per officials, are trapped in a residential house and there is an exchange of intermittent firing from both sides.
Police sources said at least 13 families were evacuated as the area is congested. “The operation is being conducted in a very professional manner to avoid any collateral damage,” they said—(TDD)
