Udhampur: In a major victory against drug trafficking, the Udhampur District Police seized a significant quantity of heroin and apprehended three notorious narcotics smugglers.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by the In-Charge Check Post (ICCP) at Naka Point Tikri on Jammu Srinagar National Highway (NHW-44) intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Creta) bearing registration number JK02DH-2486 travelling from Jammu towards Kashmir. During a thorough inspection, the team discovered three transparent packets containing a staggering 488.76 grams of a heroin-like substance concealed within the vehicle.
All three occupants of the vehicle, identified as Mukhtar Ahmed son of Mohd. Rashid, resident of Karmara Poonch, Mohd. Hafiz son of Mohd. Hussain, resident of W.No.10 Jhulass, Poonch, and Abdul Hamid son of Mohd. Hussain, resident of W.No. 10 Jhulass, Poonch, were promptly apprehended.
The confiscated heroin has an estimated street value of several crores, highlighting the scale of the drug trafficking operation disrupted by the police. A case FIR No. 212/2024 under sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal.
The Udhampur Police are actively investigating the case, aiming to expose the entire narcotics network, including both suppliers and distributors. They are urging the public to come forward and share any information related to drug trafficking activities.
