Jammu:In a significant development , in order to boost sports activities in University and inculcate sports interest among apart from academics, the Vice Chancellor, Dr Dharam buddhi has appointed renowned international footballer Mr. Arun Malhotra, as the new Advisor for Sports of University.
The announcement for formal appointment came after a meeting between Mr. Malhotra and Vice chancellor of Uttranchal university held at the Vice Chancellor’s office on September 7th, 2024.
Arun Malhotra, a former Indian Footballer and Technical Member, AIFF(All Indian Football Federation) with numerous accolades to his name, has reiterated that “ it has always been my priority to engage youth towards sports activities and provide them a platform to showcase their talent at highest levels. Today I honoured to be given this opportunity to contribute to the development of sports at the university. My focus Will be to nurture young talent and create a robust sports culture,” he said.
Dr Dharam buddhi , vice chancellor of the University said ” we were looking for sports export to widen and strengthening the sports activities in University. While highlighting the importance of this appointment, VC further retorted that “ the vast experience of Mr. Arun Malhotra and his passion to build up sports hub across country will be invaluable in guiding our students. We are committed to providing the best facilities and support to our athletes, and his expertise will be a great asset.”
The meeting also included discussions on upcoming sports events, infrastructure improvements, and initiatives to encourage student participation in various sports activities.
Arun Malhotra shared his vision for a comprehensive sports program that includes regular training sessions, workshops with professional athletes, and inter-university competitions.
Students and faculty members have welcomed the appointment, expressing their excitement about the positive changes it will bring. “Having someone of Arun Malhotra’s calibre as our sports advisor is a huge boost for us. We look forward to learning from his experience and achieving new heights in sports,” said a student representative.
The university plans to host a formal ceremony to officially welcome Arun Malhotra and outline the future roadmap for sports development. This appointment marks a new chapter in the university’s commitment to excellence in sports and holistic student development
