Srinagar, (TDD): Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired an important high-level security review meeting in Srinagar today bringing together key officials to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting, held at a government facility in the city, was attended by the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), top police officials, and other senior members of the security and intelligence apparatus.

The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss the current security challenges facing the region, particularly ahead of the busy winter tourist season. Officials reviewed ongoing security operations and the readiness of security forces to handle any potential threats. The meeting also stressed on improving coordination between central and local security forces to ensure effective management of law and order in both urban and rural areas.

One of the main topics discussed was the security arrangement for the upcoming winter carnival events in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and other popular tourist destinations. With the influx of tourists expected to rise during the winter months, the authorities are focused on ensuring the safety of both visitors and locals. The high-level meeting also focused on the preparedness of the police and intelligence agencies to tackle any unforeseen security challenges that may arise.

In addition to the tourism-related security concerns, the officials reviewed the broader security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, including the situation along the borders and the status of counter-insurgency operations. The ongoing efforts to maintain peace and curb violence were also discussed, with the authorities reiterating their commitment to tackling any security threats decisively.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the need for continuous monitoring and collaboration among various agencies to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir remains secure, especially in light of the ongoing political developments and security concerns in the region.

This review meeting is part of a series of such discussions held regularly by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that the region’s security framework is robust and effective in addressing both local and national security challenges. The presence of senior officials from the IB and the police reflects the seriousness with which the government is approaching the security situation in the Union Territory.(TDD)
