Managing Committee Flags Critical Infrastructure Gaps Ahead of Annual Pilgrimage
IMRAN SHAH
Kishtwar, DD, With the revered Shree Hudh Mata Trisandhiya Yatra set to commence from June 26, 2025, the Yatra Managing Committee has raised serious concerns regarding the state of infrastructure along the pilgrimage route. In a detailed letter addressed to the District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, the Committee has called for immediate intervention to ensure the safety and convenience of thousands of devotees expected to participate in this spiritually significant journey.
According to the Committee, the bridal paths, culverts, and bridges leading from Dachhan to Shree Hudh Mata Bhawan, including areas such as Gowkooth, Chungnoo, Kaikooth, and Braham Sarovar, are in a highly dilapidated condition due to heavy snowfall and flash floods during the winter season. The letter expresses deep concern that both pilgrims and ponies may not be able to reach the Bhawan safely unless urgent repairs are undertaken.
The present state of disrepair poses a serious threat to the safety of pilgrims. Devotees visit the Darbar not only during the Yatra but throughout the year. Inaccessibility could lead to severe hardships,” the letter states.
Drinking Water and Sanitation a Major Concern
The Managing Committee has also flagged the lack of drinking water facilities at key locations such as Dilgooth Dachhan, Dhanogarh, Gowkooth, Pransan, Kaikooth, and Shree Hudh Mata Bhawan. It has urged the administration to arrange for adequate water supply along the route to address the needs of the yatris.
Another significant issue raised is the absence of proper sanitary facilities. The Committee has requested the installation of 22 Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) at key halting points including:
05 CSCs at Gowkooth
05 CSCs at Kaikooth
10 CSCs at Shree Hudh Mata Bhawan
02 CSCs at Trisandhiya Mata
The letter stresses that these facilities are essential for maintaining the health, hygiene, and dignity of pilgrims.
Helipad and Shelter Infrastructure Needs Attention
Further compounding the challenges is the reported damage to the helipad at Kaikooth, which is vital for helicopter services during the Yatra. The Committee has requested that the Rural Development Department be directed to undertake its immediate repair and restoration.
To address accommodation shortages, the Committee has appealed for the installation of pre-fabricated shelters at locations such as Gowkooth, Kaikooth, and the Bhawan, with support from Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPP). It has also requested the administration to provide 15–20 tents through SDRF or the Red Cross to support pilgrims during the peak Yatra period.
A Call for Immediate Administrative Action
The letter concludes with a humble request for timely action by all concerned departments, underscoring the importance of the Yatra not only as a religious event but also as a crucial contributor to the local economy and cultural heritage of the region.
As the countdown to the Yatra begins, all eyes are now on the district administration to act swiftly and ensure that the 2025 Shree Hudh Mata Trisandhiya Yatra is conducted in a safe, smooth, and spiritually enriching manner for all.DD
