Katra, (DD): The newly launched Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar has seen an overwhelming response from the public, with bookings already full for the next ten days, officials said.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, Station Superintendent at Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station, said the public enthusiasm has exceeded expectations. “There is a tremendous rush. Demand is so high that not a single seat is available for the next 10 days,” Sharma said.
He attributed the response to the excitement surrounding the route and the premium travel experience the train offers. “It’s a new and scenic journey, and people are eager to experience it. The atmosphere is festive, and tourists are especially keen to ride this train,” he added.
Sharma noted that the train’s onboard amenities have added to its appeal. “Passengers are enjoying the ride. We are ensuring smooth service, and any issues that arise are resolved promptly. The entire railway staff is committed to providing the best experience.”
The Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, 2025. It is part of the larger Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which aims to integrate Jammu and Kashmir more closely with the national railway network.
The high-speed train significantly reduces travel time between Katra and Srinagar, offering a comfortable, safe, and efficient option for locals and tourists alike. The service is also expected to boost regional trade, support the horticulture sector by expediting fruit transport, and enhance religious tourism linked to destinations like the Vaishno Devi shrine.(DD)
