Counter-Terror Grid Tightened in Poonch: Reward Announced for Informant

KATHUA/JAMMU: DD, J&K Police Kathua has conducted two days basic firing Practice of Village Defence Group (VDG) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel in the border district, Kathua.
The firing practice was conducted under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma. DySP SOG Bani and SHO Police Station Bani were also there.
The VDGs, and SOG personnel were directed by supervisory officers on how to handle and make use of arms and ammunition.
An official said that the VDGs, and SOGs were trained on how to properly handle weapons, safe loading/unloading procedures, aiming and firing practices, routine maintenance and cleaning of firearms as well as to remain extra vigilant during their duties.
“The VDG members were also familiarized with field craft tactics like different ways to move, crawl, roll, and movement in buddy pairs, cover fire etc.
This training aims to build confidence, improve firing skills and enhance coordination with security forces, according to the police official.
The official said that many VDG’s alongwith SOG personnel took part in basic firing practice.
In addition to this, SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma also directed the respective supervisory officers to ensure that all weapon safety rules and regulations are followed at all times.


She further said these exercises are considered essential to rejuvenate the VDG’s and help them act as “First Line of Defense” in remote and vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, Government Railway Police (GRP) has tightened its security grid with the support of paramilitary here at Jammu Railway Station.
The security has been enhanced in the wake of the recent Delhi blast. Hence, the security agencies are on high-alert to check the suspicious movement, and secure the public places from the terror-threat.
The GRP personnel were seen checking the platforms, identity cards of the people, and belongings of the travelers, while sniffer dogs also accompanied the contingents of the police personnel.
To strengthen the information flow network, the police in Poonch District has announced reward of Rs 5 lakhs for credible information about the terror linked activities, as per the media reports.DD
