Week-Long Drive Against Traffic Rule Violators in Jammu Rural

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu: DD, Traffic Rural Jammu has carried out a week-long special enforcement drive targeting overloading in passenger vehicles and the use of pressure horns across the rural districts of Kathua, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch.

The drive, conducted from December 1 to December 7, 2025, resulted in challaning 505 Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), including 140 buses, 151 mini-buses and 88 taxis/cabs. Officials noted that most violations were reported during morning and evening hours, particularly on rural routes where vehicles tend to remain outside routine monitoring.

Out of the total challaned vehicles, 201 were found overloaded, largely involving buses carrying 5 to 15 excess passengers.

A separate drive focusing on pressure horns was conducted from December 3 to December 7, during which 99 vehicles—including 15 passenger vehicles and 84 goods carriers—were booked for violating anti-pollution norms.

As part of the campaign, 53 awareness programmes were held by field officers to sensitize students, drivers and the general public about road safety rules and precautions aimed at preventing accidents.

SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, urged the public to strictly follow traffic rules, particularly in hilly regions where the risk to passengers is higher. He added that similar enforcement drives will continue in future.DD
