UDHAMPUR :TDD, A week Long lecture series on the Theme- Environmental Degradation and Management was Conducted by Department of Zoology, Government College for Women(GCW), Udhampur from 13 Nov 2024 to 20 Nov 2024 in which a number of students participated and expressed their views on the theme under the guidance and patronage of Principal Dr.Nalini Pathania.
The Programme commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. Sanjeet Kour, HOD Zoology. Speaking on the occasion, She highlighted the importance of the theme in day-to-day life and the role of students as a reformer in different spheres of life through sustainable practices and lifestyle changes for the betterment of the environment.
The programme started with the introduction to the theme and various types of pollution which are degrading the environment by Sonali of BSc Sem III. Four Students Sonali, Shruti Chib, Kirti Sharma and Shiney Singh of Sem III presented a gripping power point presentation on the Air pollution, its types, major air pollutants, sources, its effects on human and plant health. Various schemes and initiatives to combat air pollution with special emphasis on Air Quality index (AQI) were also discussed on first day. Day 2 was dedicated to water pollution. Arti Sharma, Arushi Sharma, Priya and Priya Sharma of Sem III canvassed the importance of water and the intensity and scourge of water pollution, its major water pollutants, sources, effects, control and preventive measures with public participation especially role of youth. Plastic pollution was battled around by Prashi Devi, Samiksha, Danisha Bhardwaj and Meenakshi Devi on 3rd day.
The menace of plastic pollution and its effects, especially microplastic pollution was discussed by the presenters and the audience as well. This was followed by day 4 dedicated to Soil pollution and Solid waste pollution which was presented by Isha Sharma, Priya, Simran, Rippy and Sakshi of BSc Sem III. The Fifth and Sixth day were dedicated to the concept, sources, effects, control of Noise pollution and thermal pollution through a very interesting and powerful power point presentation by Monika, Simran, Vanshika, Veena, Lakshmi, Priya and Bhumika of BSc Sem III respectively.
The Lecture series culminated with the appreciation of the student presenters for their hardwork and energetic presentations. The event was attended by a large number of students and faculty members and was very effective in bringing awareness about the theme- Environment Degradation and Management. The Presenters were awarded with the certificates of appreciation which was applauded by the audience. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Anita Kumari while the proceedings of the programme were carried out by Dr. Neha Antal and Prof Munaza Mehraj. The programme concluded with formal vote of thanks by Dr Sanjeet Kour, Head, Department of Zoology.TDD
