Srinagar, Dec 27 (TDD): Srinagar woke up to its first snowfall of the season today, turning the city into a winter wonderland and spreading joy among locals and tourists alike. The much-awaited snowfall draped the Valley in a pristine white layer, creating enchanting sights and bringing life to the city’s winter charm.

For tourists who traveled to Kashmir to experience its famed snowfall, the moment was nothing short of magical. “It’s surreal! Watching the snow fall while gliding on a shikara in Dal Lake feels like a scene straight out of a movie,” said Priya, a visitor from Delhi.

Locals, too, embraced the snowfall with excitement and hope. “The first snowfall always feels special. It’s a time of joy and togetherness. My children have been outside building snowmen since morning,” said Farooq Ahmed, a resident of Srinagar.

The snowfall has provided a much-needed boost to the local tourism sector. “This is perfect timing ahead of New Year celebrations. We’re expecting a rise in tourists visiting popular spots like Gulmarg and Pahalgam,” said Bashir Khan, a hotel owner in Srinagar.

Across the city, children were seen playing in the snow, while shopkeepers prepared for an increase in visitors enjoying the winter festivities. Dal Lake, with its snow-covered surroundings, became a hub for photography and shikara rides.

The Meteorological Department has predicted more snowfall in the next 24 hours, particularly in higher-altitude areas. “This snowfall signals the onset of the winter season, which will not only attract tourists but also replenish water levels in rivers and reservoirs,” said an official.

Authorities, however, have advised caution on slippery roads while ensuring that the festive mood remains intact. “This snowfall is a blessing in so many ways. It’s good for tourism, agriculture, and most importantly, it uplifts everyone’s spirits,” remarked Shabir Ahmad, a shopkeeper in the city’s bustling market.
