Zanskar, DD, The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and national pride at the Sports Stadium, Zanskar. The tricolour was hoisted by SDM Zanskar, Mohd. Hassan, who also took the salute at the impressive march past presented by the Ladakh Police, ex-servicemen, and contingents from various schools of the subdivision.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Mohd Hassan paid glowing tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation’s independence. He also honoured the valour and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces, who continue to safeguard the unity and integrity of the country.
Highlighting the progress in Zanskar subdivision, SDM Zanskar noted significant achievements including improved road connectivity through widening and black-topping works on all three sides — Leh, Kargil, and Himachal Pradesh. He informed that the Shinkula Tunnel is under construction, the 220 kV transmission line to Zanskar is progressing, and the Jal Jeevan Mission is nearing completion. He further mentioned ongoing development on various link roads, as well as key projects like the solar power initiative aimed at sustainable energy for the region.
The SDM expressed appreciation for the officials of the subdivision for their dedicated public service. On the occasion, students who excelled at national and international levels were honoured with mementoes and certificates, while several officials were recognised for their outstanding contributions.
The celebration featured colourful cultural performances by school children and local groups, showcasing the rich heritage of Zanskar. Adding a unique touch to the celebrations, the nunnery of Zangla Chomo Gonpa presented a special cultural performance and distributed saplings to the gathering, spreading the message of environmental conservation and sustainable living. The programme concluded with the SDM extending heartfelt thanks to all participants, officers, and citizens for making the event a resounding success.DD
