Srinagar, (DD) In a record-breaking effort, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has reopened the strategic Zojila Pass in just 33 days, restoring the crucial Srinagar-Leh National Highway ahead of schedule.

The reopening was marked by a ceremonial flag-off of vehicles from Srinagar to Kargil by Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Jan, along with Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan and senior officials from the 14 and 15 Corps.

Speaking to reporters, Lt Gen Srinivasan praised the relentless efforts of BRO personnel, who braved extreme conditions and avalanche threats to clear the pass in record time. “Every year, our teams work against formidable odds, and this year’s achievement is a testament to their dedication and resilience,” he said.

Zojila Pass, a lifeline for Ladakh, remains snowbound for months during winter, cutting off the region from the rest of the country. The expedited clearance will significantly benefit both civilians and the armed forces by ensuring smoother movement of essential supplies and personnel.

With this milestone, the BRO continues to set new benchmarks in infrastructure resilience and connectivity in high-altitude regions.(DD)
