Jammu Tour Operators Urge Tourists Not to Cancel Kashmir Trips, Highlight Heavy Losses Post-Pahalgam Attack

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu, (DD):In the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu’s tour operators have appealed to tourists across the country not to cancel their upcoming trips to Kashmir, stressing that such decisions could severely impact the region’s already fragile tourism economy.

Ravi Kumar Sagotra, President of the Jammu Tour Operators’ Association, urged visitors to have faith in the administration’s security arrangements. “We understand the concern, but Kashmir remains safe and welcoming. The government has stepped up security, and such incidents should not define the entire region,” he said.

Sagotra revealed that in just 24 hours following the attack, tour operators across Jammu and Kashmir have reported over 40% cancellations, with some hotels in Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg witnessing mass check-outs.

“Our phone lines are flooded with cancellation requests. This is peak season, and local livelihoods—from hoteliers to shikara walas—are at stake,” he added.

The tourism sector in Kashmir, which contributes significantly to the local economy, was just beginning to recover after years of pandemic-related disruptions. Tour operators fear that prolonged panic could derail the revival.

“We urge tourists to stay calm and rely on official advisories, not rumours. The Valley needs your support now more than ever,” Sagotra emphasised.(DD)
