Baramulla, May 12(DD) The Baramulla district administration has cleared six villages in the Uri sector for the return of residents following the successful disposal of unexploded ordnances (UXOs).

According to officials, security agencies have neutralized seven UXOs in Kamalkote, Madhan, Gowhallan, Salamabad (Bijhama), Gangerhill, and Gawalta. These operations were part of ongoing efforts to sanitize the region after recent tensions along the Line of Control.

“Residents of these villages are now permitted to return. The clearance follows thorough verification of UXO disposal by our teams,” a police spokesperson confirme

However, the danger is not yet fully over. Authorities warned that 11 other villages remain under risk, with several UXOs still unaccounted for. In total, 20 UXOs were reported across 17 locations in the district.

Baramulla Police has issued a public advisory urging residents to remain cautious. Locals are advised not to touch or approach any suspicious items and to immediately inform nearby security personnel or the police.
