Leh,DD, Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, held a comprehensive meeting with a delegation led by Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk, to explore a wide-ranging educational collaboration with WIPRO Foundation’s Education Division and Navikru Eco Foundation, going beyond environmental education to address long-term academic and community development goals in Ladakh.
The delegation included Avinash Kumar, Head of Education, WIPRO Foundation; Ashish Bipin Shah, Consultant, WIPRO Foundation; Preeti Chauhan, Founder and Managing Director, Navikru Eco Foundation; and Anoop George, spokesperson from Azim Premji University.
The visit focused on finalising a MoU between Education Department and Navikru Eco Foundation aimed at introducing integrated and locally relevant educational initiatives in the region.
While welcoming the initiative, CEC emphasized the need to move beyond thematic interventions and toward long-term, community-rooted educational transformation. He urged the Foundation to consider launching scholarship programmes for Ladakhi students, facilitating access to high-quality education in reputed schools, colleges, and universities across India.
Reinforcing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Ladakh, the CEC stressed that education must empower local youth to build their futures without having to migrate, especially from remote and border regions. He underscored the importance of developing institutions that are rooted in Ladakh’s unique context—institutions that can deliver excellence without disconnecting students from their land, culture, or communities.
Drawing inspiration from impactful programmes like the Naropa’s Fellowship, which has successfully nurtured grassroots leadership and entrepreneurship, the CEC encouraged WIPRO Foundation and its partners to invest in building a similar ecosystem in Ladakh—focused on empowerment, innovation, and sustainability.
CEC assured the delegation of all necessary institutional support from LAHDC Leh, provided the initiatives are committed to delivering meaningful, localised, and lasting impact for Ladakhi communities.DD
