“After Pahalgam Terror Attack, PM Package Employees Asked to Work from Home Amid Security Concerns”

Baramulla, (DD)In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have directed Prime Minister’s Package employees and Jammu-based reserved category staff posted in Baramulla district to work from home until April 27, 2025.

The directive, issued by the Chief Education Officer of Baramulla, applies to migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees as well as those from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories serving under the Prime Minister’s employment rehabilitation scheme. Officials stated that the move is a precautionary measure following intelligence alerts and growing safety concerns among these minority staffers.

“All concerned employees are advised to remain available for duties remotely and maintain contact with their respective heads of departments,” the order reads.

The Pahalgam attack, which targeted pilgrims and tourists, has been described as the deadliest assault on civilians in Kashmir since 2008. The killings have triggered widespread fear and anguish, especially among government employees from vulnerable communities working in the Valley.

The PM Package, introduced in 2008, was aimed at rehabilitating displaced Kashmiri Pandits by offering employment and housing in the region. However, repeated security incidents have raised questions over the implementation and safety of the scheme’s beneficiaries.

While the government has promised enhanced security and a firm response to the attack, officials say temporary work-from-home measures are essential to avoid further risks during this period of heightened tension.

This development also coincides with a rare moment of solidarity in the Valley, as Kashmir observed a complete shutdown in protest against the terror strike, signaling a significant shift in public sentiment.

Authorities say additional security reviews are underway and further measures may be announced based on evolving ground conditions.(DD)
