Poonch, DD, Ajaz Jan, Hon’ble Member of the Legislative Assembly from Poonch, today registered a strong protest in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly against the recently passed Waqf Board (Amendment) Bill by the Government of India.
During the session, Mr. Jan termed the bill as unconstitutional, discriminatory, and a direct encroachment on the religious and administrative autonomy of the Muslim community. He raised serious concerns regarding the centralization of Waqf property management and the dilution of community representation in both the Central and State Waqf Boards.
Ajaz Jan moved a motion seeking an immediate and in-depth discussion on the implications of the bill. He stated that the legislation undermines the foundational principles of religious freedom as enshrined in Article 25 of the Indian Constitution. He further cautioned that such steps could lead to widespread unrest and alienation within the community.DD
