Bandipora-Gurez Road Reopens After Nearly a Month-Long Closure

Diplomat Correspondent

Bandipora,(DD): The vital 85-kilometer Bandipora-Gurez road has been reopened for one-way traffic after remaining shut for 28 days due to heavy snowfall, officials confirmed on Saturday. The reopening brings much-needed relief to the residents of Gurez, who rely on this crucial route for supplies, healthcare access, and travel.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO), responsible for maintaining the road, worked tirelessly to clear the accumulated snow, particularly at the challenging Razdan Pass, which often sees heavy snowfall during winter. Following successful clearance operations, authorities have permitted one-way traffic under strict regulations to ensure safe movement.

Unlike previous years, when the road remained closed for nearly three months due to extreme weather conditions, this year’s swift reopening marks a significant improvement in winter connectivity efforts. Officials have announced that two-way traffic will resume from tomorrow, further easing transportation for locals and traders who depend on the route for their livelihood.

With the road back in operation, residents of Gurez can now expect smoother access to essential services, medical facilities, and markets, alleviating the hardships faced during the prolonged closure. Authorities have urged commuters to adhere to safety advisories while traveling through the mountainous stretch, as road conditions may still be challenging in certain areas.(DD)
