Ramban, (DD): At least 25 pilgrims en route to the Amarnath shrine were injured on Saturday when four buses in the Pahalgam-bound convoy collided near the langar site at Chanderkote in Ramban district.
Officials said the accident occurred after one of the bus drivers reportedly lost control due to brake failure, resulting in a chain collision involving three other buses travelling in close proximity.
All injured yatris were promptly shifted to District Hospital Ramban, where they were provided with immediate medical care. Rescue teams from the police and health department reached the spot without delay and coordinated the response efforts.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Ilyas Khan, visited the hospital to take stock of the situation and enquired about the wellbeing of the injured. “A brake failure led to a collision involving four buses. Around 25 pilgrims sustained injuries, most of which are minor. The injured are being discharged after receiving first aid,” he said.
The DC also confirmed that replacement vehicles have been arranged for the pilgrims to resume their journey. “All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the affected yatris continue their pilgrimage without further delay,” he added.
Authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the cause of the accident(DD)
