Jammu: DD, Government offices in Jammu reopened today as the National Conference-led administration resumed the biannual ‘Durbar Move’, marking the shift of the civil secretariat and other official departments from Srinagar for the winter session after a four-year hiatus.

As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, elaborate arrangements have been made for smooth office operations, including enhanced security, accommodation, and transport facilities for employees relocating from Srinagar.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, traveled by road from Srinagar to Jammu to attend their offices on Monday, inaugurating the first winter session under the restored ‘Durbar Move’.

Introduced nearly 150 years ago by the Dogra rulers, the ‘Durbar Move’ was suspended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in 2021, citing the administration’s transition to e-office, which was expected to save Rs 200 crore annually.

The practice was revived on October 16 by CM Omar Abdullah, fulfilling an election promise and receiving widespread support from the Jammu business community.

Ahead of the move, Jammu city underwent major preparations, including repair of roads damaged by heavy rains in August-September and upkeep of government offices and staff quarters, ensuring a smooth transition for the winter session. (KNC)
