DC Leh Visits Bogdang, Turtuk, Tyakshi, and Thang; Reviews Development Needs and Grievances in Border Villages

Diplomat Correspondent

Nubra, DD, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sh. Romil Singh Donk, IAS, undertook an extensive tour of border villages at Bogdang, Turtuk, Tyakshi, and Thang of Nubra Sub Division to assess developmental challenges, inspect ongoing works, and address public grievances. The visit also aimed to strengthen administrative outreach in far-flung areas located along the Line of Control. All Numberdars were sensitized about Mission Indus Cleanup, a mission envisaged to clean Indus and its watershed.

At Bogdang, DC Leh was received by Numberdar Mohd Mussa and local villagers. During the interaction, residents raised several issues, including damage to agricultural canals, lack of educational infrastructure and damage to local bridges. A major concern was the shortage of medical staff, particularly the need for a gynecologist at the Primary Health Centre (PHC). DC Leh also visited the PHC, reviewed the facility, and assured the public of immediate steps for staff deployment and service improvement.

At Turtuk, villagers led by Numberdar Youl Anayatullah and Farool Abdul Karam raised concerns regarding delays in issuing Resident Certificates and requested enhanced promotion of tourism to boost the local economy. The DC Leh also visited the iconic Turtuk Wooden Bridge to assess its condition and connectivity role.

During his visit to Tyakshi, locals highlighted issues related to educational facilities, land erosion due to rising river water levels, and the condition of the Government Higher Secondary School.
DC Leh inspected the ongoing construction of the Tyakshi Bridge and emphasized the importance of its timely completion to improve regional connectivity.

The tour concluded at Thang, the last inhabited village of the Nubra Sub-Division near the border. The Numberdar and villagers shared pressing concerns, including the failure of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), frequent stonefalls posing safety risks, and lack of tourism activity in the area.
DC Leh appreciated the resilience of residents living in such challenging conditions and assured them that their genuine demands would be addressed in a phased and priority-based manner. He also visited the Zero RD Point in Thang during the tour.

The DC was accompanied by SDM Nubra, Sh. Mukul Beniwal (IAS); Tehsildar Diskit, Sh. Tufail Iqbal (KAS); Executive Engineer R&B Nubra, Er. Shamim Ahmad; CDPO Nubra; Naib Tehsildar Turtuk; and officials from other concerned departments.DD
