EC Kacho Feroz attends outreach program for fish farmers, distributes fishing equipment

Kargil, DD, The Department of Fisheries successfully concluded a day-long outreach program for fish farmers on the National Fisheries Digital Platform on Tuesday at newly constructed Office of the Assistant Director Fisheries, Kharool Kargil.

The Department of Fisheries, Kargil, organized this program under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY). The program was attended by Executive Councilor for Tourism and Fisheries, Sh. Kacho Mohd Feroz, as the Chief Guest, along with Councilor Ranbirpora, Sh. Abdul Wahid, Councilor Bhimbat Sh. Abdul Samad and Assistant Director Fisheries, Kargil Sh. Mohd Amin Lone.

The Executive Councilor, Sh. Kacho Mohd Feroz highlighted the potential of the fisheries sector in Kargil and he emphasized that the fisheries sector is a booming industry, offering opportunities for growth and development. Sh. Kacho Mohd Feroz noted that fish farming has become increasingly popular among the general public, and there is a need to create more awareness about its benefits.

On this occasion Sh. Mohd Amin Lone, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Kargil stated that the main objective of the program was to raise awareness among fish farmers about the NFDP platform, which provides various benefits, including registration, credit facilitation, aquaculture insurance, performance grants, traceability, training and capacity building. He also said that, “the NFDP is a game-changer for the fisheries sector, and we urge all stakeholders to register on the platform and avail the benefits under PMMKSSY,”.

The Councilors also addressed the fish farmers, emphasizing the importance of fish farming and promising full support.

The Councilors distributed fishing equipment such as trout pelleted feed, fish covering net, Digital Dissolved Oxygen (DO) meter, fish handle net and rechargeable torch to the fish farmers, and ensured that they will provide full support.

At the end Sh. Mohd Amin Lone, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Kargil said that the Department of Fisheries plans to continue organizing outreach programs and camps to promote registrations on the NFDP and facilitate access to benefits under PMMKSSY.DD
