Srinagar,(DD)An anti-terror operation was launched on Monday in the upper forested areas of Dachigam, Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar city, after security forces received credible intelligence inputs about militant presence in the region.
Official sources confirmed that a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and CRPF initiated a search operation in the densely forested area. As the forces approached a suspected hideout, they came under fire, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire.
“An encounter is currently underway in the upper areas of Dachigam. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area to seal all escape routes,” a senior police officer said, adding that the operation is being carried out with utmost caution given the difficult terrain and thick vegetation.
The area has been cordoned off, and special forces have reportedly been deployed to comb the higher altitudes of the forest. The operation is still ongoing at the time of filing this report, and there is no immediate confirmation of any casualties.
Local sources reported heightened movement of security personnel in the nearby Harwan and Zewan areas, with traffic restrictions imposed on certain internal routes leading towards the forest zone.
This is a developing story. More details are awaited(DD)
