Srinagar,(DD) Fresh snowfall across Kashmir has brought life to a standstill, disrupting road and air travel while stranding hundreds of commuters. The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44), Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road, Batote-Doda Road, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Top have been closed due to heavy snow accumulation and landslides.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed men and machinery to clear the snow and restore connectivity. However, traffic remains blocked at multiple points, particularly between Ramsoo and Qazigund, and near the Nashri-Navyug Tunnel, due to landslides and shooting stones.
Flight operations at Srinagar International Airport have also been hit, with multiple morning flights delayed. Airport Director Javid Anjum confirmed that efforts are underway to clear the runway.
Despite the harsh weather, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has decided to conduct the 11th class exams as scheduled, while the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has postponed its 1st semester examinations.
Authorities have urged travelers to avoid unnecessary movement and stay updated with official advisories as snow clearance operations continue.(DD)
