Srinagar:DD, The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a Union Territory-level Steering Committee and District Level Committees to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of the youth engagement and empowerment plan across the UT.
As per Government Order No. 1371-JK(GAD) of 2025, the UT-level Steering Committee will be chaired by the Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department, with members from Youth Services & Sports, Labour & Employment, Skill Development, School Education, and the Planning, Development & Monitoring Department, along with the Director General, Economics & Statistics. The Committee will meet quarterly or as required and may co-opt additional members as needed.
The Steering Committee is tasked with monitoring the overall implementation of the youth engagement plan, ensuring a dedicated online portal for real-time monitoring, fostering convergence across sectors like sports, education, culture, tourism, industry, and skill development, and promoting initiatives such as youth summits, skill expos, and entrepreneurship events. Collaboration with private sector, NGOs, international bodies, and community organizations is also encouraged for scalability.
At the district level, committees will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner and include senior officials such as the SSP, Chief Education Officer, Chief Planning Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Assistant Labour Commissioner, and District Information Officer. These committees are mandated to implement district-specific programmes, conduct information campaigns, engage local Panchayati Raj Institutions, NGOs, and youth clubs, and submit quarterly progress reports to the Steering Committee.
The government said the move aims to strengthen youth participation, create opportunities, and ensure coordinated and holistic development initiatives across the Union Territory. (KNC)
