Narco-Network Nightmare: 700 grams Heroin worth ₹6 Crore Seized Kicks Off Udhampur’s War on Drugs

Arun Jasrotia
Udhampur :- In a significant blow to the drug trade in Jammu and Kashmir, the Udhampur district police have successfully intercepted a substantial narcotics shipment, marking a major victory in their ongoing war against illegal substances. The operation, which unfolded on the bustling Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Chenani, resulted in the seizure of 700 grams of high-grade heroin, estimated to be worth a staggering ₹6 crores in the international market.
The breakthrough came as part of the recently launched “Udhampur Drug Free” initiative, a comprehensive drive spearheaded by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Amod Kumar Nagpure(IPS). This ambitious campaign aims to root out the drug menace that has been plaguing the district, demonstrating the police force’s unwavering commitment to creating a safer, drug-free environment for its citizens.
The operation’s success can be attributed to the vigilance and quick thinking of a special team from the Chenani Police Station. Under the leadership of Station House Officer Jaswinder Singh and the close supervision of SDPO Chenani Sheikh Tahir, the team conducted a routine vehicle check that turned into a significant bust. Their suspicions were aroused by a particular vehicle, leading to a thorough search that uncovered the concealed contraband.
The alleged Drug Peddler, identified as Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of Kulgam, Kashmir, was promptly arrested at the scene. According to SSP Nagpure, Ashraf is believed to be a key player in a larger drug peddling network, with intentions of distributing the narcotics in Udhampur. The police have registered an FIR at the Chenani Police Station and have launched a comprehensive investigation to unravel the entire network behind this operation.
SSP Nagpure, speaking about the incident, emphasized the police’s determination to dismantle drug networks operating in the region. He issued a stern warning to all individuals involved in drug trafficking, urging them to abandon their illegal activities and choose a lawful path. The SSP’s message was clear: the Udhampur police will continue to crack down on drug-related crimes with unwavering resolve.
This significant seizure not only represents a major financial blow to the drug trafficking operations in the area but also serves as a strong deterrent to others involved in the illicit trade. As the investigation unfolds, the Udhampur police remain committed to exposing the entire network, promising swift and strict legal action against all those found complicit in this dangerous and illegal enterprise.
The success of this operation underscores the effectiveness of the “Udhampur Drug Free” initiative and highlights the crucial role of vigilant policing in safeguarding communities from the scourge of drug abuse. TDD
