Jammu, (DD)In a strong message of solidarity and resolve, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited Jammu and Kashmir today following the tragic terrorist attack that claimed several lives. Gandhi met with victims and local leaders, emphasizing that the entire nation must come together to defeat the forces of terror.
“It’s been a terrible tragedy. My love and affection go out to everyone who has lost family members,” Gandhi said, after visiting one of the injured survivors. “The nation stands with them as one,” he added, stressing the need for unity.
Rahul Gandhi revealed that the Opposition had held a meeting with the government and expressed unanimous support for any action the Centre chooses to take in response to the attack. “Terrorists seek to divide us — we must not let them succeed,” he said.
Addressing reports of backlash against Kashmiris elsewhere in the country, Gandhi warned against targeting innocent people. “It is sad to see some attacking my brothers and sisters from Kashmir. We must stand together,” he said.
The Congress leader also met the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. After a detailed briefing on the situation, he assured them of his and his party’s full cooperation in tackling the crisis.
Gandhi’s visit and his call for unity have been seen as a major gesture of bipartisan solidarity at a time when the country confronts the renewed threat of terrorism.(DD)
