SHAHIDI DIWAS COMMEMORATED WITH PRIDE AND PATRIOTIC FERVOUR AT MENDHAR

Nazim Ali Manhas

Mendhar, DD, With hearts brimming with pride and eyes moist with gratitude, the Indian Army, in close coordination with the resolute citizens of Mendhar, commemorated Shahidi Diwas—a solemn tribute to the supreme sacrifice of six valiant sons of the soil, who laid down their lives while selflessly assisting the Army during the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict.

The ceremony began with a sacred wreath-laying at the Shahid Smarak and Shaheed Abdul Ghani Chowk Memorial, led with honour by the Commanding Officer of the local Rashtriya Rifles Battalion. The air was filled with solemn reverence as the names of the martyrs echoed in the hearts of all present—heroes who, though no longer with us, continue to inspire generations

This annual homage is not merely a remembrance, but a resounding affirmation of the unbreakable bond between the Indian Army and the proud people of Mendhar, united in their love for the motherland and unwavering commitment to her defence.

The overwhelming presence and heartfelt participation of the local populace was a powerful expression of patriotic unity and solidarity with the armed forces. Their spirited involvement underscored the indomitable resolve of Mendhar’s people to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Army in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

In a moving gesture of respect and recognition, gifts were presented to the families of the martyrs—a humble token of a nation’s gratitude to those who have given their all. The presence of senior officials from the District and Tehsil administration, along with esteemed members of civil society, lent further dignity to the occasion.

Events such as Shahidi Diwas serve as a beacon of national pride, igniting the spirit of service and sacrifice, and strengthening the sacred bond between the protectors of our borders and the citizens they defend. They are a clarion call to unity, resilience, and the timeless values that define our great nation.DD
