Kishtwar, J&K (India): Security forces have neutralised a Pakistani terrorist in an encounter in the upper reaches of the Dichad area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district.
Defence sources told Diplomat Digital that security forces, including the Assam Rifles, RR units, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of J&K Police, and paramilitary forces, jointly launched a search operation in Chatroo and other areas of Kishtwar.
“Today, the search parties were fired upon by the terrorists hiding in the dense forests, triggering a gunfight in which one Pakistani terrorist was neutralised,” they added.
They further informed that the encounter is still in progress, and the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) grid has been tightened to eliminate the remaining terrorists.
The identity of the neutralised terrorist is yet to be ascertained as the security forces continue their operation.
The search operation was launched in Kishtwar on January 18, 2026, jointly by the security forces to hunt down foreign terrorists in the higher reaches of the hilly district.
During the continuous search operation, security forces also recovered a ration store and kitchen setup after busting a natural hideout that had reportedly been established in the dense forests for a long stay.
An investigation has also been launched to determine how edible stocks, cooking gas cylinders, and other essential supplies were transported into the forested area.DD
