“Powerless Experience Should Be a Wake-Up Call for Omar Abdullah”: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar, (DD) Reacting to the recent curbs faced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his attempt to visit the graveyard of July 13 martyrs, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took to social media platform X to comment on the situation, saying the CM had finally “tasted the bitter medicine” of authoritarianism that ordinary Kashmiris endure daily.

“Power teaches little, Powerlessness teaches more! Today the CM sahab @OmarAbdullah tasted the bitter medicine of authoritarian high-handedness and subsequent helplessness that common Kashmiris face every day in different forms, as all agency and space is denied to them,” Mirwaiz wrote.

He further hoped the experience would prompt the CM to reprioritise governance. “Hoping this experience shifts his focus to what is the first priority of every people—upholding of their dignity and their fundamental rights—and work sincerely towards its restoration,” he added.

The statement comes a day after authorities reportedly denied Omar Abdullah permission to visit the Khawajabazar Martyrs’ Graveyard in Nowhatta, sparking criticism from various quarters.(DD)
